FunFeature: Honor Connor

CONNOR’S SONG

There are many opportunities to participate in a 5K races in Amarillo, so you might ask: “What makes this one race special, why highlight it?” We have a simple answer for you…

Connor Deal. A precious 12 year old child who loved to sing, enjoyed all things Star Wars and was a gifted artist that left this earth too soon on February 17, 2009 from MRSA-related staph sepsis pneumonia and influenza. Connor left behind his loving parents Nan and Ron Deal, two brothers Braden and Brennan, and many friends from church and his class at Bonham Middle School. No words are more eloquent than those that his parents have written about him (click here to read), and the inspiration that his life has challenged those that loved him to accomplish.

In Connor’s memory, the Deal’s started Connor’s Song, a non-profit that seeks to love children around the world and at home and has partnered with Touch A Life Foundation to rescue children in Ghana from modern day slavery. The picture below is Connor’s parents on a mission, hugging one of the boys that Nan rescued after this young boy’s parents sold him into slavery.
