FunFeature: Christmas Lights
We love the holiday season: the spirit of giving, the gatherings with friends and family, and all of the lights and decorations! Grab a thermos of hot cocoa, load your family into the car, and check out these hot spots for Christmas lights and decorations:
Bishop Hills - Take Tascosa Road north to this neighborhood that has been notorious for their over-the-top lights for years and years. About 1.5 miles north of the loop, you'll see all the lights on the right side of the road.
Wolflin - Start on Hughes Street and snake your way through the brick roads in this well-lit historic neighborhood. Once you hit Oldham Circle, take 32nd Street west towards Georgia where it becomes Hawthorne Drive. On the right, you'll see one of the most amazing lights displays in Amarillo. Tune your radio to 96.5 FM, and you'll see the lights as they flash in tune with the Christmas carols.
Horse-Drawn Carriages - For a fun outing with the kids or romantic evening with your honey, take a Christmas Light Tour through Wolflin in a horse-drawn carriage. Fun! The tours - which leave from the zebra striped building at I-27 and Moss Street - will run from 6:00-9:30pm each night from December 16th-23rd. $10 per person. No reservation necessary - just show up!
Jingle Bell Run - Another great way to take in the lights of Wolflin is on foot. Join the Lone Star Runner's Club for their annual Jingle Bell Run on Saturday December 17th at 5:30pm. The four mile run is an untimed event just for the enjoyment of the lights. Entry form here. Walkers welcome!
7200 Gainsborough - This block just off of I-40 and Coulter has some major holiday spirit! They go all out with their Christmas decorations. An easy detour on your way home from the mall - you'll get some much-needed fun after the vigors of gift shopping!
Amarillo Botanical Gardens - Head out to ABG now through December 10th for their Christmas in the Gardens event. Enjoy a warm beverage as you walk through the lighted and decorated gardens and listen to Christmas carols performed by local singing groups. Every night from 6-8pm. Caroling from 6:45-7:15pm. For performer schedule, click here. And it's FREE!
GLO - If you'd rather stay indoors, head over to Victory Church for their rock opera Christmas presentation, GLO. This exciting show tells the Christmas story like never before with loud music, bright lights and colors, videos, dance and more. Six FREE performances - December 15th- 18th - click here for show times and more information.
